Cold weather fish kill...

I took a few hour today to be "off the grid" by going out in the boat with my brother and my nephew. We were doing a little volunteer work with some other locals to rescue sea turtles from the cold water. I found out that when it gets really cold like it has been around here that they can suffer from hypothermia just like people.  Our instructions were to spot them and if they appeared to be in distress (having trouble breathing) haul them onto the boat and take them to a location where they would be transported to Seaworld for care until the waters warmed back up. We only saw one today and it was swimming quite well but the people further south managed to find about 40. I was relieved to not have found any but disappointed that i couldn't be of greater help.  I was told that about 450 have been rescued so far and only one has dies because it was just too far gone by the time they got to it.  We did cruise slowly along some of the beaches on the river only to be met with  beaches just littered with dead fish  and sea life. So very sad. I don't really know if most people realize the detrimental affect that this severely cold weather can have on the local wildlife but seeing all of those lifeless fish, crabs and even birds really kicked it home for me. I have included a shot of just ONE of the dozens of beaches we passed today. This severe cold  and extreme heat that we have experienced over the past several years are directly connected to our global climate change and I think people need to see the problems that it can cause. Thank you for taking time to read this. Have a wonderful day.
