My new favorite thing to put into my encaustic mixed media collages are latin phrases. I just finished a piece titled "Alis volat propiis", which means, "She flies on wings of her own". I think that that phrase absolutely sums up my life at the stage I am at. I am learning that I don't have to depend upon a man or any other person to make my life better. I know that every day is a struggle and that raising my daughter in this economy while making art my career is going to be the single most challenging thing I could ever do...but I also know that I really have no choice. I love art and it is in my heart and my soul. It makes me so happy and at peace and I know that when I have finished a piece and other people see it, it makes them happy as well. I love to make beautiful things for people and hand them a small piece of myself--especially when I see their face light up. So, I am learning to fly on my own two wings and I know it will all be amazingly worth it when I land softly on the ground on the other side of that chasm!
